Energy fluxes over Indian seas have been computed for pre-monsoon and monsoon months of the years 1987 and 1988 using bulk aerodynamic equations with exchange coefficients which vary with wind speed and stability, The years 1987 and 1988 have bee~ chosen due to the constrasting nature of the performances of Indian summer monsoon during these years. Besides energy fluxes several other oceanographic parameters, viz., SST, sea-air temperature difference, 'Bowen ratio'and 'rate of wind work' have been computed and examined. The distributions of these parameters over Indian seas during 1987 and 1988 reveal several constrasting features. Some of these features provide predictive indications of monsoon performance.

Abstract The Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) often causes the onset of the Indonesian–Australian summer monsoon (IASM) over Indonesia and northern Australia. In the present study, a composite analysis is conducted to reveal the detailed IASM onset process and its air–sea interactions associated with the first-branch eastward-propagating MJO (FEMJO) based on 30-yr ERA-Interim data, satellite-derived sea surface temperature (SST), outgoing longwave radiation (OLR), and SODA3 ocean reanalysis. The results distinctly illustrate the phase-locked relationships among the persistent sea surface warming north of Australia, the FEMJO, and the established westerlies. It is found that the SST to the north of Australia reaches its annual maximum just before the onset of the summer monsoon. The oceanic surface mixed layer heat budget discloses that this rapid warming is primarily produced by the enhanced surface heat flux. In addition, this premonsoon sea surface warming increases the air specific humidity in the low-level troposphere and then establishes zonal moisture asymmetry relative to the FEMJO convection. This creates a more unstable atmospheric stratification southeast of the FEMJO and favors convection throughout the vicinity of northern Australia, which ultimately triggers the onset of the IASM. The results in this study thus may potentially be applicable to seasonal monsoon climate monitoring and prediction.

The study mainly focuses on heat and moisture budget components and its variations during meteorological drought conditions over India for the period 1951-2013. IITM sub-divisional summer monsoon standardized rainfall anomaly is considered to identify the meteorological drought where the standardized summer monsoon rainfall anomaly is less than one. From the analysis, there are thirteen meteorological droughts are identified, and the rainfall decreased on spatial and temporal scales with significant changes in the frequency, duration and total amount of rainfall. Mainly, anticyclonic circulation is observed along 60⁰-70⁰E with weak westerlies at lower levels. At the upper level, the intensity of easterly jet stream is decreased and shifted southward during drought years.Anomalous variations in relative humidity and vertical velocity induce the maximum reduction in the moisture amount (15%) at lower and upper levels leads to weakening of the strength of local Hadley circulation. Next, the heat budget components are decreased over Bay of Bengal and coastal regions with a magnitude of 40 to 200 W/m2 in drought years. It is observed that more moisture is transported to the equatorial region producing below average rainfall over the Indian subcontinent during weak monsoon periods. Hence, this study will help to identify the quantitative and qualitative estimation of drought conditions for long-range prediction of rainfall forecasting.

Monthly ano mal ies of surface pressu re for quadrangula r grids over Indian Seas ha ve been computedulilisin& 15 )'~ars' I NCU data (1976-90). The relationships between the grid pressure anomalies and summermonsoon rainfall over India ha ve beendiscussed. Good correlations have bee n found between the anomalies ofMayand the monsoon rainfall.

One of the most characteristic features of cancer cells is their ability to metastasia. It is suggested that the modifications of the structure and properties of cancer cells surfaces play the main role in this process. The present work was aimed at finding out what ultrastructural features apear in tumor in vivo which removal of individual cancer cells from the cell population can provide. For this purpose the cellular interactions in the normal human thyroid and cancer tumor of this gland electron microscopic were studied. The tissues were fixed in osmium tetroxide and were embedded in Araldite-Epon.In normal human thyroid the most common type of intercellular contacts was represented by simple junction formed by the parallelalignment of adjacent cell membranees leaving in between an intermembranes space 15-20 nm filled with electronlucid material (Fig. 1a). Sometimes in the basal part of cells dilatations of the intercellular space 40-50 nm wide were found (Fig. 1a). Here the cell surfaces may form single short microvilli.

In the field of materials science, the importance of the ultrahigh resolution analytical electron microscope (UHRAEM) is increasing. A new UHRAEM which provides a resolution of better than 0.2 nm and allows analysis of a few nm areas has been developed. [Fig. 1 shows the external view] The followings are some characteristic features of the UHRAEM.Objective lens (OL)Two types of OL polepieces (URP for ±10' specimen tilt and ARP for ±30' tilt) have been developed. The optical constants shown in the table on the next page are figures calculated by the finite element method. However, Cs was experimentally confirmed by two methods (namely, Beam Tilt method and Krivanek method) as 0.45 ∼ 0.50 mm for URP and as 0.9 ∼ 1.0 mm for ARP, respectively. Fig. 2 shows an optical diffractogram obtained from a micrograph of amorphous carbon with URP under the Scherzer defocus condition. It demonstrates a resolution of 0.19 nm and a Cs smaller than 0.5 mm.

Political ideological pluralism, religious diversity are characteristic features of modern Ukrainian society. On the one hand, multiculturalism, socio-political, religious differentiation of the latter appear as important characteristics of its democracy, as a practical expression of freedom, on the other - as a factor that led to the deconsocialization of society, gave rise to "nodal points" of tension, confrontational processes, in particular, in political and religious spheres.
